Our purpose built classroom is home to our nursery and reception classes. Mrs Cossey is a qualified early years teacher and is supported by Miss Woolsey. We aim to provide a balance of adult directed activities and continuous provision, which enables children to access resources independently to develop their own interests.
At Happisburgh, we are excited to be a part of the NCETM’s Mastering Number programme! The children have been developing their understanding of number and mathematical themes in practical and play based contexts. It has been really fun to think about how to support their learning within continuous provision.
Our children have many opportunities for mark making and writing, both as part of adult focused activities and continuous provision. We provide clip boards and writing implements for independent mark making outside and in our construction and role play areas. We draw pictures, make maps, plans, lists, letters and cards. The children love drawing and mark making using different media such as twigs, chalks, charcoal and paint. They are developing their large and fine motor skills ready for writing in Key Stage 1.

At Happisburgh, our curriculum is planned alongside our partner school St Mary’s Endowed at Roughton. Our topics change on a termly basis and include Marvellous Me, People Who Help Us and All Creatures Great and Small. They are planned to provide the children with all the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their Early Learning Goals and prepare them for Key Stage 1.
